The process
How selling works, step by step
01Submit gift card
You choose your brand, enter the balance, see the payout offer and submit — voluntarily, at any time.
02Verification
We confirm the brand, validity and remaining balance, run duplicate checks and complete fraud screening.
03Authorisation email
If the card passes verification, we email you an authorisation request confirming the final payout amount.
04Seller approval
You explicitly approve the transaction. Without your approval, nothing further happens and the card stays yours.
05Redemption
Only after your authorisation is the card redeemed and ownership transferred to CardSell.
06Electronic payout
Your payout is sent electronically to the payment method you selected. Processing times vary.
Verification and payout timings vary by brand, value and payment provider, and acceptance is never guaranteed.
Section 1
Agreement
By submitting a gift card to CardSell, you agree to the terms set out in this Seller Agreement. It applies each time you submit a card, whether or not you hold an account with us.
This Agreement operates alongside our Terms & Conditions and the other policies published on https://www.cardsell.co.uk, including our Gift Card Acceptance Policy, Fraud Prevention Policy, Payment & Payout Policy, Refund & Dispute Policy, AML & Compliance Policy and Privacy Policy. Where a conflict arises on a matter specific to selling, this Agreement applies.
Section 2
Seller Eligibility
To sell a gift card through CardSell, you must:
- Be at least 18 years of age, or otherwise legally authorised to enter into a binding agreement.
- Be the lawful owner of the submitted gift card.
- Have the legal right to sell or transfer the gift card.
- Provide truthful and accurate information about yourself, the card and your payout details.
We may decline submissions, pause accounts or close accounts where these requirements are not met or cannot be verified.
Section 3
Ownership Declaration
Each time you submit a gift card, you confirm that:
- The gift card was obtained lawfully.
- The card is not stolen, lost, or obtained through fraud.
- No third-party rights are being infringed by the sale.
- You have full authority to transfer the card to CardSell.
False declarations have consequences
Submitting false information may result in rejection of the transaction, withholding of payment, closure of your account and further action where permitted by law, including reporting to the relevant authorities or the issuing retailer.
Section 4
Verification Process
Every submitted gift card is subject to verification before acceptance. Verification may include:
- Balance confirmation — checking the live, unspent value on the card.
- Card validity — confirming the code and PIN are active and usable.
- Brand eligibility — confirming the issuing brand is one we currently purchase.
- Duplicate checks — comparing the code against current and historic submissions.
- Fraud prevention screening — checking for indicators of unlawfully obtained cards.
- Risk assessment — reviewing submission patterns, account history and payout details.
Verification does not guarantee acceptance. Where the verified brand, balance or status differs from the details you supplied, we will recalculate the offer and confirm the revised figure with you before proceeding.
Section 6
Pricing
The payout offer is displayed before submission, so you can see exactly what is being offered before committing anything. By authorising the transaction, you accept the displayed payout amount as full and final consideration for the card.
Payout offers may vary depending on the gift card brand, the balance, current demand and the outcome of verification. Rates can change at any time; the rate presented to you at the point of submission is the rate applied to that submission unless verification reveals a different balance or brand.
Section 7
Payments
Approved payouts are sent electronically using our supported payment methods, such as a a local bank transfer in your country or a supported e-money provider. You are responsible for the accuracy of the payout details you supply.
Processing times may vary depending on verification, your payment provider and banking hours, and we do not promise a fixed completion time. Payment is initiated only after successful verification and your authorisation.
Cash payments are not available
All payouts are electronic. CardSell never pays in cash and never uses cheques, cryptocurrency or other physical instruments.
Section 8
Rejected Transactions
CardSell may reject or cancel a submission where:
- Verification fails or the balance cannot be confirmed.
- Ownership of the card cannot be confirmed.
- Fraud indicators are detected during screening.
- The card is ineligible, expired, restricted or from a brand we do not purchase.
- Required information is incomplete or inconsistent.
Where a submission is rejected before redemption, the card is not redeemed and remains yours. We will tell you the outcome by email and, where we are able to do so, the reason for the decision.
Section 9
Fraud Prevention
CardSell actively monitors transactions to protect customers, retailers and the business. Our checks are designed to prevent unlawfully obtained cards entering the market and to keep legitimate sellers safe from having their payouts misdirected.
Additional identity or ownership verification may be requested where appropriate — for example proof of purchase, a receipt, clearer images of the card, or confirmation that the payout account belongs to you. Submissions may be paused while these checks are completed.
Section 10
Seller Responsibilities
As a seller, you agree to:
- Provide accurate information about yourself, the gift card and your payout details.
- Respond promptly to authorisation requests so your transaction is not delayed.
- Keep your contact details up to date so we can reach you about your submission.
- Cooperate with reasonable verification requests where necessary.
- Keep the card details private and unspent while your submission is with us.
Section 11
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, CardSell is not responsible for indirect, incidental or consequential losses arising from rejected submissions, verification outcomes, or delays caused by payment providers or banking systems outside our control.
Nothing in this Agreement limits or excludes liability where such limitation or exclusion is prohibited by law, including liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. Your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected.
Section 12
Changes to This Agreement
CardSell may update this Seller Agreement periodically to reflect changes to our service, our processes or our legal obligations. The latest version will always be available on the website with an updated "Last Updated" date.
The version in force at the time of your submission is the version that applies to that submission.
